Little Boots – Stuck On Repeat

From Wikipedia

Victoria Christina Hesketh (born 4 May 1984),[1] also known by her stage name/pseudonym Little Boots, is an English electropop singer–songwriter.[3] Her nickname was given to her by a friend, and is a reference to the fact that she has small feet. [4] As a musician Little Boots sings and plays the keyboard, piano, stylophone and a Japanese electronic instrument called Tenori-on.[5]

After a return to college to focus on her studies, Hesketh along with two of her fellow students formed the indie pop/electronic band Dead Disco. The band had limited releases of two their singles but due to increasingly different ideas about the band’s musical direction Hesketh left to pursue a solo career.[6]

Hesketh has cited as influences Captain Beefheart, Britney Spears, The Human League, Gary Numan, Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk.[7]

Hesketh began writing her own songs and posting covers on the social networking sites such as YouTube and MySpace. After appearing on several shows including Later… with Jools Holland and Last Call with Carson Daly, Hesketh entered production on her debut album Hands. With increasing media attention regarding her then-yet-to-be-released debut album, Hesketh topped the BBC Sound of 2009 poll and received a BRIT Critics Choice nomination.[8][9] With the release of her debut she has become linked to a recent wave of breakthrough female artists in their twenties including Lady Gaga, Ladyhawke, Florence and the Machine and Ellie Jackson of La Roux.[10]

Her debut album, Hands, released on the 8 June 2009, peaked at number five on the UK Albums Chart and at number twenty on the Irish Albums Chart. The first single off the album “New in Town” became a top twenty hit,[11] while the next single “Remedy“, produced by RedOne,[12] reached the top ten. She has also released the EP Illuminations in the United States.[13]

ARTIST: Rusko

February 2nd, 2010

Rusko – Live on BBC Radio 1 (Oct. 1st, 2009 – 2hr.)

From JamBase

Christopher Mercer, aka Rusko was born in Leeds in 1985 to a musical family. From day one Rusko was surrounded by music whether it be his families piano’s, guitars, banjo’s and saxophones…or in his later years the heavy reggae and dub sound systems of Leeds, music has always been an integral part of Rusko’s life.

After graduating from Leeds university with a degree in musical performance, Rusko discovered the world of dubstep through SUB DUB and a debut appearance from the “Digital Mystikz”, having spent the past 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities with Sub Soldiers label mate Caspa.

Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko bought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive and quickly coined his own take on the genre and turned the scene upside down. His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit “Cockney Thug” has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold. And has been remixed by Buraka Som sistema, Diplo, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts.

His sound continues to develop with different BPM’s that lean to jungle, house, hip hop or electro, either way, whatever BPM or tempo…you can immediately tell a Rusko track.

At 23 Rusko is only in 1st gear, with collaborations on the table with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Yo Majesty and Wiley the future sure is looking bright. Already setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists such as Adele, A-Trak featuring Kid Sister, Leon Jean-Marie Rusko is only going in one direction. Onwards, upwards and far beyond any producer could dream of. Rusko is like Dr Dre, Timbaland and Switch all rolled into one with a serious overdose of bass.

Check out the video of Rusko performing LIVE @ Nocturnal last year below and click to see the interview w/ Rusko we did before the set!

Pretty Lights – Fly Away Another Day

From Pretty Lights Official Website

Pretty Lights is the musical vision of the ultra-versatile Colorado based producer Derek Vincent Smith, accompanied in the live setting by drummer, Cory Eberhard. Together these two achieve a raw energy rarely reached in the realm of electronic music. At a time when music lovers from almost all subcultures and genres are finding common ground in the basic form of bangin’ beats, Pretty Lights is giving the people what they want; electro organic cutting-edge party rocking beats that fill venues with energy and emotion and send dance floors into frenzies. And the people are responding. Pretty Lights’ first two albums, Taking Up Your Precious Time and Filling Up The City Skies, have been downloaded over 300,000 times from PrettyLightsMusic.com, which equates to over 6.15 million track downloads. Additionally, since January 2009 Pretty Lights has sold out more than 33 shows including stops at Bowery Ballroom in New York, the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Georgia Theatre in Athens, and Subterranean, Congress, and The Metro in Chicago. Pretty Lights returns with his new album, Passing By Behind Your Eyes, out October 6 and available for free download at PrettyLightsMusic.com. What makes Pretty Lights truly different though, is that these beats have serious soul. Passing By Behind Your Eyes continues to showcase juxtaposing collages of beautiful vintage samples against backdrops of futuristic synthesis and dirty broken beats, creating a sound that can snap your neck while simultaneously shedding your tears. The sound is not only getting around, it’s spreading like a virus.

NEWS: Say goodbye to single-day tickets

January 27th, 2010

From Los Angeles Times

Interested in what Jay-Z and only Jay-Z will bring to the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival? Better make a weekend of it. This year, Coachella promoters are doing away with single-day tickets and offering only a $269 three-day ticket, a move, Goldenvoice leader and festival architect Paul Tollett said, designed to help enhance the experience for three-day pass buyers.

In cutting the single-day pass — it is not available now, and there is no intention to make it available closer to the fest or even at the Coachella gate — Tollett stressed other changes to this year’s three-day bonanza of music in the desert. Camping prices have decreased, down from $55 per person to $57 per slot, regardless of the number of campers you can “cram into the spot,” according to the festival website, and Coachella has added in-and-out privileges.

“I understand that every time you make a change it’s great for some people, and it’s not great for others,” Tollett said. “The other festivals around the world that have camping, you can buy only the pass. You don’t buy the single day — Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, any of the super great ones.”

But this decision wasn’t based on me-too-syndrome.

Tollett noted that the vast majority of Coachella attendees spring for the three-day pass. Since Coachella expanded to three days in 2007, Tollett said that more than 80% of concert-goers have bought multi-day passes. Cutting out the single-day, $99 ticket may result in alienating a number of fest-goers — a financially sizable 20% of Coachella fans.

But Coachella, Tollett said, is a three-day event, and his goal is improving the experience for those willing to spring for the mutli-day ticket. Limited hotel rooms in the area, Tollett said, factored into his decision, as well as improving the daily traffic around the festival.

“The thing is,” Tollett said, “there’s a lack of hotels in the Coachella Valley, and most have a three-day minimum. Many times what happens is people get a hotel for the three days, and only go to Coachella for one or two of the days. They hit Friday and Saturday, and go home or rest at the hotel on Sunday. That’s no problem, but the problem with that is that there are people who want that hotel and are going for three days. The single- and two-day people are clogging up the hotels and making it so people who want to go for three days can’t find a hotel.”

The move has its detractors. The Coachella message boards are filled with angry fans, including those visiting from out of town for only a day, or those who don’t want to spend the $269-plus service fees for the full ticket. An email to “info@coachella.com” generates an immediate auto-response, with the note that only three-day tickets will be available for 2010.

For cost-conscious fans, Tollett emphasizes that Goldenvoice is once again offering layaway tickets, hopefully easing the financial strain.

“We’re really trying to make it great for the fan,” Tollett said. “We understand it will affect some people who want to go for one day, but we have to protect the three-day people. It was a complex decision. We put some thought into it, and we’re trying our best to make it a good experience.”

Those who purchase tickets on the day-of, Tollett said, will likely find pro-rated rather than single-day tickets available.
